What You’ll Need for Our First 2015 Meeting!

Wedges – Art Nouveau Thistle Wall Hanging Skye quilters Jennifer LewisBest wishes for a fabric- and fun-filled 2015 to all Skye quilters and our quilting friends worldwide! We’re starting the year with a workshop on Monday to create an Art Nouveau Thistle Wall Hanging.

Jenny will email instructions, but in the meantime here’s what you’ll need to bring:

Flower Head Petals:

Colour 1 – 1 x strip 2” x 20”

Colour 2 – 1 x strip 2½” x 20”

Colour 3 – 1 x strip 1½” x 20”

Colour 4 – 1 x strip 1½” x 20”

Centre of Flower:

4” square in either a green or a colour to match your choice of flower head

Stem & Leaves:

2 fat quarters in different greens

Background:

Fat quarter in a light colour

Inner Frame & Binding:

22” x 10” (or half a fat quarter)

Threads

Threads for piecing and quilting

Wadding

22” x 22”

Bondaweb

17” x 12”

Backing:

Butter muslin 22” x 22” if you wish to quilt and embellish before adding the backing

Fat quarter for actual backing

Strip of fabric for the sleeve

Other Items to Bring Along

  • Sewing machine (don’t forget the foot pedal and plug) – make sure you have cleaned it and you have new needle

  • ¼” foot

  • Walking foot

  • Rotary cutter with a nice sharp blade

  • Rotary cutting ruler **

  • Cutting mat **

  • 15 degree wedge ruler if you have one – I have some for sale if you find you enjoy making the wedges and wish to buy one

  • Iron and ironing mat **

  • Your basic sewing kit and paper scissors

  • Pencil

** We do have these items in the group but it would help if you bought your own to save time waiting for your turn.
