Jenny says: “I have just returned from the Quilters Guild’s (Region 16) Stirling Residential weekend. This is the first time I have attended the weekend; it was great. I met some old friends and some new ones. I elected to attend Jacquie Harvey’s hand quilting class. If you recall, we saw some of Jacquie’s miniature hand-quilts when she came to visit us in 2009. If you haven’t seen any of Jacquie’s work, do go to her website and take a look (www.jacquieharvey.co.uk). Her work is exquisite!

Our challenge for the weekend was to work on a cushion cover using appliqué and hand quilting. The photos show a cushion of Jacquie’s and my work in progress. Jacquie suffers from arthritis and so has adapted a lot of her quilting to make it easier for herself. She often uses a backstitch to quilt (there are examples in history). If you ever get a chance to join one of her classes I would recommend it without hesitation. Apart from learning a lot you will have a lot of fun.

On the Saturday evening Anja Townrow gave a talk walking us through her journey as a renowned quilter. During the talk she showed us at least 30 of her quilts. Spectacular! A complete contrast to Jacquie’s work – Anya works mostly on her sewing machine. Do look at Anya’s website to see her wonderful quilts (www.anjatownrow.com).

The weekend is held every two years in Stirling. I will definitely be there in 2013. Definitely to be recommended.
